JUMP like a frog! WIGGLE your fishy fins! CRAWL like a caterpillar and FLAP your wings like a butterfly! Come explore and have an up close look at amazing creatures. Visit our creative play area, tree house and observation tower. Enjoy a live animal meet and greet of Heartland’s pet guinea pig, lizard, and snake. Play a game of eye spy along our forest trail.

Check out SPRINGTIME at Heartland Forest and see what creatures can be found in our ponds! Through games and open explorations, learn how fish survive under the water. Explore our ponds for frogs in different life stages and meet live caterpillars. Visit our creative play area, tree house and observation tower. Enjoy a live animal meet and greet of Heartland’s pet guinea pig, lizard, and snake.

Curriculum Connections: Grade 1 Needs and Characteristics of Living Things, Daily and Seasonal Changes; Grade 2 Growth and Changes in Animals, Air and Water in the Environment

Meet live caterpillars, and play Plants vs Bugs to learn about some of the amazing relationships between plants and animals. Explore a pond up close and investigate the interactions within the pond community through games and activities. Live frog, fish and insect encounters will enrich the learning experience. Visit our tree house, observation tower, playground and miniput for more fun.

Curriculum Connections: Grade 3 Growth and Changes in Plants (1.1, 1.2, 3.1, 3.4, 3.6); Grade 4 Habitats and Communities

A hands-on, close up look at our pond and vernal pool ecosystems shows what biodiversity really looks like. Through games, activities and experiments explore the relationships between different aquatic, amphibian and insect species and see who they can’t live without. Get a chance to explore our tree house and observation tower to discover more about our incredible environment.

Curriculum Connections: Grade 6 Biodiversity

Discover how humans can impact the biotic and abiotic components in an ecosystem and what we can do to stop it. Become a citizen scientist with macroinvertebrate sampling and analysis. Explore our forest with a guided hike.
