The Program
  • Student activities will link to: “Characteristics and Needs of Living Things”, and “Growth and Changes in Animals”
    ( Gr.1 & 2 Science, Life Systems.)
  • “Sensational Scavenger Hunt” – Identifying the needs of living things ( food, air, water, light and space ) by going on a
    scavenger hunt.
  • Exploring the forest’s flora and fauna with your senses.
  • Nosey Activities will get the student to recognize the smells of the forest.
  • Looking Here and There to find familiar animals and describe physical, behavioural characteristics and how animals adapt.
  • Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Is to what makes up the forest “orchestra”.
  • Touchy Stuff explores the textures of the forest.

Available Facilities

  • 93 acres of forest with over 17 different species of trees

  •  A portable classroom which is undergoing some interesting changes as a
    nature center.

  • Interpretive signage which is suitable for various ages and abilities through the use of colour photographs and short, simple informative text.

  • 2 loop trails of different lengths totalling 1.6 km.

  • Ramps, railings and other features that make it universally accessible.

  •  A series of wetland pockets that are the lifeline to many local animals and plants.

  • A variety of amphibians, 6 species of frogs alone.

  • An event tent for picnics and special events.

  • Clearings in the woods where educational activities can be conducted.

  • Accessible washroom facilities
