Trees Please!!!!!!

Attention Grades 3, 4 and 7 Teachers!

What's better than planting a tree? It's protecting large trees in various stages of growth.

Heartland Forest's Educational Program is focusing on its 18 species of native trees that are part of its 93 acres of protected Carolinian forest. This forest is a local treasure which is available for use by educators. Take advantage of this wonderful outdoor facility to meet your curriculum expectations within the Life Science units of your science and technology program. The program activities listed below vary with grade level.

The "Trees Please!!!!!!" program at Heartland Forest:

•Highlights the importance of a forest.
• Has students discover some common leaf and bark characteristics of trees.
•Allow students to collect different kinds of leaves.
•Has students search for plant and animal interrelationships.
•Can accommodate specific teacher requests.

This program:

  • Is approximately two hours long.
  • Includes an 80 page teacher resource booklet provided to each participating school.
  • Is located on Kalar Rd., in Niagara Falls (near Niagara Square).
  • Is conducted by qualified staff.
  • Costs only $2
  • Aligns with the Ontario curriculum and can be adapted for other grades and subjects.
  • Is partially funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
